Restaurant Creates Open Deck to the Sea with Second Story Garage Door Remodel

Haas Door • October 19, 2020

No matter what the season, a trip to Wildwood, N.J. isn’t complete without a visit to The Deck. And now, thanks to a second floor expansion project featuring seven Haas garage doors, more people can enjoy the popular seaside restaurant year-round.

“We expanded and enclosed the entire second floor area with garage doors,” says Wally Lerro, owner of The Deck at Holly Beach. “This extends our capacity to remain open every day, no matter what the weather!

“During good weather, the garage doors are open and hidden in the ceiling. When the weather turns colder, the garage doors close to create a comfortable indoor setting.”

Made for a Seaside Setting

Frequent storms and bad winter weather spurred the owners to renovate the two-story bar and restaurant. They did so with the advice and assistance of the team at Elmer Door.

“The CA-320 garage doors we recommended for The Deck all feature insulated tempered glass,” says Ron Guth with Elmer Door. “When closed, the all-glass style of the doors maximizes the flow of light into the restaurant. And, to match the existing colors of the building and awnings, we ordered the rails and stiles in a custom-matched powder coat Sherwin-Williams blue finish.

“These garage doors are perfect for the ocean location. They feature rust- and corrosion-resistant commercial-grade aluminum to prevent potential problems related to salt air and sea spray.”

The heavy-duty CA-320 garage doors provide the largest door size maximums, a wide variety of color/wood grain finishes, plus pass doors and impact glazing options. Rugged and durable, the CA-320 Haas Door garage doors are often used in commercial settings such as automobile dealerships, car washes and restaurants.

Hidden Garage Doors

Located just two blocks from the ocean, The Deck has been a Jersey Shore landmark for 12 years.

“Enclosing the perimeter of the second floor and using the Haas Door products was a really smart move on our part,” says Lerro. “The garage doors are easy to use and quiet when operating. The custom color perfectly matches our exterior design.

“These garage doors are really the talk of the town! The locals who saw first-hand the installation of the doors really love them. Oftentimes out-of-towners don’t even realize there are garage doors in our design when they visit during good weather. When they ask what type of enclosure we use to keep out the elements, we proudly show them how the garage doors operate. They’re amazed. We’ve had so many complements and people just love them!”

Because the garage connects directly to the living space in many homes, the performance of the garage door affects more than just curb appeal. It plays a meaningful role in comfort, efficiency and long-term home performance. That’s why the way a garage door is built matters.

As hurricane season ramps up, homeowners across the Gulf Coast, Atlantic states and beyond are checking emergency kits, trimming trees and securing loose outdoor items. But one of the most important — and most overlooked — steps in hurricane prep starts with your garage. At Haas Door, we know that your garage door isn’t just about curb appeal. It’s a vital barrier that protects your home from wind, water and debris. And in high-wind events like hurricanes, it can be a first line of defense in protecting your home. Why Your Garage Door Matters in a Storm A compromised garage door can cause catastrophic damage. According to FEMA, garage door failure is one of the leading causes of structural damage during hurricanes. Once the door is breached, wind pressure can build inside your home, lifting the roof and blowing out walls.

Garage Door Myths: What Every Homeowner Should Know Did you know that the largest moving object in your house is your garage door? May is Garage Door Safety Month — a timely reminder to ensure your garage door is working safely and reliably. Unfortunately, many homeowners hold misconceptions about garage door safety and maintenance, potentially putting themselves, their family, and their property at unnecessary risk. Haas Door and our network of professional garage door dealers around the country believe it's important to clear up these myths, helping you make informed decisions and maintain the peace of mind you and your family deserve. Myth #1: "My Garage Door Looks Fine. It Doesn't Need Maintenance." Appearances can be deceiving. A garage door might seem functional at first glance, but underlying problems, such as worn-out parts, frayed cables, and unbalanced spring systems, may be present. Overlooking these issues can lead to sudden malfunctions, which pose a risk to you and your family. Regular inspections can prevent these hidden hazards and ensure your door operates safely and smoothly.
