Garage Door Safety Month: Look, Listen, Learn, Remember
Starting this year, the International Door Association (IDA) has designated the month of May each year as Garage Door Safety Month. This coincides with Building Safety Month, sponsored annually by the International Code Council. During this month we encourage you to:
- LOOK … at your garage door springs, cables and rollers for wear and tear (better yet, bring in a professional garage door installer to check these key elements of your garage door).
- LISTEN …for grinding or scraping sounds when the garage door is being operated, which could indicate impending failure of parts.
- LEARN … to keep garage door openers and remote controls out of the reach of children (and out of sight to prevent theft). Also, teach all family members to keep hands away from moving parts of a garage door.
- REMEMBER … to contact garage door professionals if you have any concerns about your garage door, and to schedule yearly reviews.
As a member of the IDA, Haas Door wants to remind everyone that
the garage door is the largest moving object in your home. It should be professionally installed and serviced by people trained in garage door operations.
“Garage door installations and maintenance require expert support,” says Jeffrey Nofziger, president of Haas Door. “Homeowners and business owners should never take unnecessary chances with garage doors. If something is not operating correctly, immediately contact a
professional garage door installer."
“Even if you don’t think there’s something immediately wrong with your garage doors, it’s just as important to have them maintained regularly by a professional. You may have no idea that a spring or cable is wearing out. By identifying that problem area in advance, a garage door professional can create a safer environment for you and your family.”
