Warrior Wings Restaurant Dedicated to Supporting Veterans

Haas Door • January 26, 2021

There was only one garage door manufacturer Brock Nagel considered using as part of his new Warrior Wings restaurant last year: Haas Door. And, there was only one installer he wanted: Nofziger Door Sales. Why? Because the Wauseon, Ohio native wanted to stick close to home, with companies he trusted, when building his veteran-owned restaurant.

“This is a Wauseon project,” says Brock Nagel, owner of
Warrior Wings in Wauseon, Ohio. “Haas garage doors are made in Wauseon. Nofziger Door Sales is based in Archbold, the next city over. I wanted to partner with companies that have the same dedication to excellence and success that we have.”

Opening Up Warrior Wings

Warrior Wings, specializing in fresh chicken wings, tenders and bird-dogs, opened on February 10, 2020. Nagel rehabbed an old Marathon® fuel station and auto repair shop built in 1968 for the restaurant setting.

“This area needs a chicken wings spot,” says Nagel. “And, as community members we have a responsibility to keep bringing new enterprises to our city.”

Open for limited dine-in, patio and online order take-outs, the restaurant design features two large Haas Door CA320i garage doors. Nagel took advantage of a popular trend of including operable garage doors in his new restaurant setting. When the weather’s good, the garage doors are open for extended patio seating. When closed, the garage doors bring added light into the interior of the restaurant.

Both rust- and corrosion-free aluminum garage doors feature dark gray glass surrounded by black anodized stiles and rails. The inside track and hardware are also powder coated.

“The Haas Door garage doors are working out great,” says Nagel. “They have a heavy-duty frame that provides flexibility. These doors confirm what we knew right from the start: Haas Door products are superior in quality and add distinction to our restaurant.”

Supporting Veterans

The truly impressive thing about Nagel’s new enterprise is his commitment to veterans. He is one of five brothers who served in the Army or Marine Corp. As a combat veteran, he wants to make the difference in the lives of returning veterans.

“Having veterans involved in the project was a key mission for Brock,” says David Liechty, product specialist at
Nofziger Door Sales. “They used a contractor who is a veteran. Our garage door installer, Brandon Short, who worked on this project is a veteran. I’m a veteran. I think we accomplished that mission!”

Nofziger Door Sales also helped keep costs down on the installations of the garage doors. And, they donated proceeds back from this effort to local veteran organizations.

For Nagel, it wasn’t just about using veterans to create his business. He wants the business to help support veterans in the area.

“We’re starting by donating a portion of each sale to local veteran causes to help facilitate healing of our local warriors,” says Nagel. “So far, we’re honored to have donated $2,000 to the American Legion Post 265. They are spearheading a downtown Wauseon project to create and hang banners honoring our local veterans. We plan to identify and work with other organizations in the future to support our veterans.

“Our goal is to continue to thrive and help our local heroes while serving the best chicken around. We want to be a source of pride for the community and our fellow Warriors.”

What's New at Haas Door?

Choosing the right garage door is only half the equation. The other half is the person who shows up to make it happen — measuring the space, walking you through the options, answering the questions you didn’t know you had and making sure everything is done right. That’s what Haas Door’s authorized dealers and installers do every day. In honor of SuperTech Day, we asked a few recent customers to share what that experience looked like for them.

When Mademan Design’s Patrick Knobloch was brought on to transform a former St. Louis auto dealership into Makers Yard — a multi-tenant restaurant hub anchoring the city’s new Delmar Maker District — the building’s industrial bones provided an excellent starting point. The challenge, however, was creating a meaningful indoor-outdoor connection across a series of large storefront openings while honoring what the building once was. Haas Door’s aluminum and glass full view sectional doors ended up playing a bigger role in solving that problem than anyone might have expected — right down to surviving an EF3 tornado with zero damage. We asked Knobloch to walk us through the project, the product decisions and what he’d tell other architects working on similar commercial applications.

Every May, Home Improvement Month gives homeowners a nudge to step back and think about the projects that would make the biggest difference — the upgrades that have been sitting on the list a little too long. If you’re not sure where to start this spring, we’d make the case for your garage door. It’s the largest moving part of your home, one of the most visible features of your exterior, and — depending on what door you have — either a significant vulnerability or a serious asset. Here’s why upgrading to a new Haas Door this spring is one of the smartest home improvement decisions you can make.

Energy efficiency is often discussed in terms of windows, insulation and HVAC systems. But one of the largest and most frequently used openings in a home is often overlooked: the garage door. Because the garage connects directly to the living space in many homes, the performance of the garage door affects more than just curb appeal. It plays a meaningful role in comfort, efficiency and long-term home performance. That’s why the way a garage door is built matters.
