National Hurricane Preparedness Week
Get ready for torrential rains and the strong winds to blow. This is National Hurricane Preparedness Week — an important time to inspect and evaluate the condition of your home’s windows, entry door, roof and garage doors.
These four parts of your home are the most vulnerable during Hurricane Season (which runs from June 1 through November 30). Based on the extreme hurricanes last year (remember Irma, Harvey and Maria?) now is the time to get your home and family prepared to this year’s hurricane season.
“If your home went through hurricane conditions in 2017, now is the time to inspect the four main openings of your house,” says Kent Nafziger, vice president of sales and marketing at Haas Door . “It’s wonderful if your home survived a hurricane.
“However, it’s important to inspect your openings to make sure the impact of the storms haven’t damaged any products. You want your home ready to take on Mother Nature if she comes calling again this year.”
Impact-Resistant 5000 Series
If your garage door needs to be replaced due to damage during previous hurricane seasons, start looking for a new door now that can help protect your home.
The Insulated Aluminum 5000 Series garage doors are an excellent choice to put Mother Nature on notice that she can’t mess with your house.
Select from the 5200 models that are two-inches thick with a calculated R-value of 17.66 and feature a durable air infiltration seal. Or, choose the 5700 model that are 1-3/4-inches thick and have a calculated R-value of 16.88.
All 5000 Series Aluminum corrosion-resistant, insulated garage doors are filled with dense CFC-free polyurethane foam insulation. The tough, durable and weather-resistant Trinar® paint finish with a 35-year finish warranty on the 5000 Series doors are tested to withstand the degrading effects of weather extremes. Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, the 5000 Series is built to last, with a heavy bottom weather seal to repel the most hostile weather conditions.
Entryways into the home — especially the garage door — are vulnerable to impact from flying debris from hurricane strength winds along with air force that can potentially push in or pull out a garage door. Passing two industry tests — DASMA 108 for static air pressure, and DASMA 115 for impact and cyclical wind pressure — are critical for garage doors. For Miami, Dade County, Florida TAS 202 for Static air pressure, and TAS 201/203 for impact and cyclical wind pressure are required.
Before the onset of Hurricane Season 2018, take time to evaluate the structures where you live and work. Make upgrades and changes now that can prepare you to weather upcoming storms.
