Garage Doors That Make You Smile
As part of a full exterior renovation effort, the McGee family chose to have four older garage doors replaced on their New Jersey home. For homeowner Tricia McGee, the new American Tradition Series 940 steel garage doors are the “icing on the cake” for the home’s new curb appeal appearance.
“When I pull up to my house and see those beautiful new carriage house style garage doors, I smile,” says McGee. “Replacing the old, solid garage doors with the Haas Door garage doors with windows was the best decision we made. We love the natural light and the doors truly complement the rest of the exterior makeover.”
Out With the Old …
After the McGee family purchased the Franklin Lakes, N.J. home in August of 2019, they got to work. Contractor Ralph Cavalucci was brought in to replace the roof, remove the French Tudor façade, paint window frames and re-side the home. The Cavalucci Construction
team also replaced several windows, added new exterior light fixtures and replaced all the exterior doors — including the four garage doors.
“The old doors were ‘loud’ and faded brown,” says homeowner McGee. “We knew those garage doors had to go, but we never expected to find garage doors that were such an attractive addition to our home.”
The McGees selected white American Tradition Series garage doors with overlay boards and black hardware. They also chose the 6-pane window design for each garage door. The new windows with grids perfectly complement the entire home exterior.
Using Free Garage Door Tools
“When we got involved in this project we immediately shared HaasCreate images with Tricia and Greg,” says Chris Codner, owner of Classic Door Company in Westwood, N.J. and a managing partner at Eastern Door Supplyin Lakewood, N.J. “This way they could visualize what their new garage doors would look like on the home. HaasCreate
is a great online tool that really helps homeowners explore different design options for their garage doors.”
According to contractor Ralph Cavalucci, the garage doors serve as the perfect accent for the full exterior renovation. “These garage doors ‘break up’ the exterior and add a richness to the home,” says Cavalucci. “We’re excited for Tricia and Greg. They’ve seen a true transformation of their home exterior with all the new components complementing each other.”
Home Style Appeal
The L-shaped appearance of the McGee home means that all four garages are visible when entering the driveway. For Tricia McGee, the functionality of the garage doors (which feature 26-gauge steel, 2-inch overall thickness with full thermal break and a calculated R-Value of 13.45) is just as important as the improved appearance.
“We have four children that all drive,” says McGee. “So that’s a family of six when we’re all home. The house layout with four garages is one reason why this home originally appealed to our family.
“When we first moved in the old garage doors looked like plain ‘masses’ on the home. The new garage doors have really brought the house from a very dated 1986 style to an appealing 2019 home. We can’t say enough good things about this entire exterior renovation — especially about the people and products that made it happen.”
