Detached Garage Stands on its Own

Creating a custom home is nothing new for builder Shannon Miller. His firm has built more than 650 homes in the past 25 years. However, the modern-day show home he recently constructed in Charlotte stands out — and above — other homes he’s created.

“The contemporary design and custom features in this house make it a one-of-a-kind creation,” says Miller, owner of Miller Homes, LLC . “The interior has solid walnut flooring combined with contemporary tile. There’s a 2,000-bottle wine room. Then, on the exterior there’s Texas limestone combined with stained cypress.”

Garage Steals the Show

A detached three-car garage opens toward the front of the house and serves as a key element of the home’s front elevation. The dark bronze anodized finish on the sophisticated styling of the RA360 Series garage doors from Haas Door complement the architecture of the unique home.

“We specified opaque glass to give us the look we wanted for this structure plus to provide extra privacy,” says Miller. “The garage features a second story for added storage, so this structure truly looks like a part of the home itself. Matching up the frame of the garage doors to the frames of the Anderson windows was a key component in the design of the overall home.”

Reliable RA360 Series Doors

Installed by Garage Doors and More of the Piedmont, the residential aluminum 360 Series doors feature full glass panels that add a uniqueness to the look of the detached garage structure. Manufactured with rust- and corrosion-free commercial grade aluminum, the RA360 Series doors are built with tongue-and-groove section joints that will remain strong and durable for the life of the doors.

“These garage doors are a quality product that I’d use again for another home project in the future,” says Miller. “The Haas Door garage doors complement the house and the impressive sports cars that will be stored in the garage.

“This garage is so appealing that it stands alone for its design and beauty.”

Energy efficiency is often discussed in terms of windows, insulation and HVAC systems. But one of the largest and most frequently used openings in a home is often overlooked: the garage door. Because the garage connects directly to the living space in many homes, the performance of the garage door affects more than just curb appeal. It plays a meaningful role in comfort, efficiency and long-term home performance. That’s why the way a garage door is built matters.
